Breakfast Stir Fry Anyone?

What do you do when you have half cooked, fried onions and potatoes, mushrooms that have faithfully lasted 3 weeks, baby carrots that have been frozen and semi-cooked, and one more hot dog to eat before you can open a new package? A very strange but yummy breakfast stir fry!

The potatoes and carrots could have cooked a little longer and the hotdogs would have been better if they were browned more, but the mushrooms were super delicious. I love doing this those everything together and make something. Why haven't I cooked more in the past?

I'm in a good mood this morning cause my shoes are new and cute!

Thank You Veterans

Every Sunday, I stay awake by sketches images of times with my friends (mostly made up) which help me to concentrate and listen to the spirit. Today I felt the need to make an image in honor of  Memorial Day. This is my thank you to all those men and women who've served this country in the past and continue to serve us today.

Culinary Creations

This week I have been more adventurous than ever, making 3 things I've never made before on my own; and, surprisingly, they all turned out okay.

First up was corn on the cob. Though, I've shucked corn plenty of times and watched Mom make it in a pot on the stove, I had never been involved in the cooking process. Since corn is such a good deal lately (this week its 3 for a $1), its been easily accessible. So Wednesday night, I shucked me and my roommates corn, attempted to cut it in half and ending up just breaking it in half myself, and boiled it. And it turned out really good! (Sorry no picture for that one.)

The second creation was cheese mushroom quiche. I woke up Thursday morning and said, "What can I make with the mushrooms I bought that isn't an omelet?" Granted a quiche isn't too far from an omelet but it was different. After a short internet search for breakfast foods with mushrooms that didn't require major ingredients that I or my roommates didn't have I found a broccoli and mushroom quiche recipe. Sadly, my broccoli had begun to mold, so that was out, but so make it more interesting than just mushrooms I added some cheddar cheese I had. The only problem was this one was that I shrunk the recipe size so my cooking time was probably off and when I cut into the quiche it was really watery. It tasted cooked so maybe it was just the moisture from the mushrooms? Mom didn't understand why I had so much moisture either, does anyone else know? It didn't have crust so maybe that's the cause?

Cheesey-Mushroom Quiche!

And then this morning I made crepes! I've always wanted to make these before but never had the guts to do it. But while searching for a mushroom recipe Thursday, I found a mushroom crepe recipe. Feeling unprepared for something so entirely new but didn't craving to make them, I saved this adventure for today. Now aside from my Aunt Chris's crepes she made for my cousin's wedding, the best crepes I've even had were Blitzes at Cracker and Co. in Mesa, which had a cream cheese, cottage cheese, and berry puree with a berry sauce and whipped cream on top. Now that's a little crazy for me so I simplified to berry whipped cream cheese mixed with cottage cheese and fresh strawberries and then just topped with powdered sugar. And man were they delicious! The biggest problems I had were my crepes getting a little too crispy and flipping, I don't think my pan is non-stick.

BED HEAD!

This is my roommate Katie, she was the only one home when I made the crepes so she got the first one.

I did get burned a little when I reached a little too high on the handle of my pan, but I'm so happy how these came out and really they were super simple! Note though, I made the batter the night before, its recommended to put the batter in the fridge for an hour so that it can set and you're less likely to get holes, granted I still got holes due to my pour pan-twirling skills.

As it turns out I can cook! Now I just need to work on bigger thinks like fish and steak. But those aren't exactly in my budget...

New Blog!

Early this week I had a thought during on of my classes that I need to just get myself to write about what and how I do my artwork. Some friends discouraged me thinking it will disclose me secrets, but I don't really have any secrets. I paint, draw, everything just the same as everyone else. So I made a new blog which is mostly for the fun combination of my art and inspiration.

Please check it out. I love to know people's feedback.

http://thedeskowl.blogspot.com/

I must really love blogs because I think this is my 5th or 6th blog, depending on how you count.

On the Wall

First semester and I made it on the wall! That is the Student Artwork Wall on the 3rd floor of the Spori art building. At first when my teacher passed back our Project 1 assignments and I didn't get my piece back I was nervous that he needed to see me after class to discuss it or something (expect the worst right?) and then I walked to the drinking fountain at break and saw this! I couldn't believe it!

Yay to me and the other 8 people who made the wall! Now I have to work harder so I can have something up from every class!

Horrible image I know but hopefully I can upload a better scan of it when I finally get my project back.
The project was for Creative Perspective. We were meant to create an interior Dream Studio space in 1pt perspective. I wish I had made done more research before I did this because I would totally have my Dream Studio even cooler than this. But its a pretty cool hang out spot, nonetheless. I mean tree house, pet owl, a fish tank window, what could be better than that?

30 day callenge DAY THIRTEEN

DAY 13 - a picture of your favorite band or artist

this is the day I was afraid of, because I don't have just one favorite band or artist. I listen to everyone and everything and change my favorite so often. So here are my top picks that have lasted the longest:

1. Taylor Swift

(my 3 favorite songs by her are actually on this album "Speak Now" and "Mean" and "The Story of Us")

2. Owl City

(this is a screen shot from their music video "Fireflies." see I don't have the messiest room)

3. Disney Songs

(not necessarily any song in particular, just Disney soundtracks)

A 3rd Birthday for Koltyn

As my new tradition continues, its Koltyn's turn.

HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY LITTLE DUDE!
I hope this year you'll be less scared of me.

I thought it would be funny to show pictures of how Koltyn helped others blow out their candles this year, he is definitely ready for his own candles!

A Day in Idaho Falls

Last Saturday I had the wonderful opportunity to drive to Idaho Falls, ID, with my best friend Shelley and my new best friends: Rachel, Celisse, and Christine.

First... CAR PICTURES!!! (I love taking these even though I stink at it.)

First our driver, Miss Shelley, and Rachel in the background performing what she calls her "Mupphet Face."

Followed by all the girls: Celisse (Shelley's future sister-in-law), Christine (Celisse's cousin), and Rachel (Shelley's friend, now my friend).

...my sad attempt to get me and the back passengers in a picture. This is as long as my arm will stretch...

We went first to a bridal appointment to look for a wedding dress for Rachel since she's getting married in September. It was so much fun. I love clothes! I can't wait to try to find my own dress!

After this we got lunch at Chick-Fil-A and explored the mall in Idaho Falls. There a shoe store going out of business and had a 2 for 1 sale! I just had to get shoes so trying on all of their 10s (they didn't have any 11s), found some new, and really cute shoes. Then we drove home, dropped of Rachel, picked up Celisse and Christine's roommate, grabbed some dinner from Albertson's dairy, and saw "The Avengers." It was my second time and it was even better than the first, even though we were all scattered and Shelley and I sat on the very front row, but that made it feel almost 3D in places. Epic! I can't wait to see it a third time!!! (though I'll probably wait for the dollar theater for that...)

Word of the Day: EPIC!!!

Squrriel Fanantic

There are so many squirrels! I love them they are so cute. Everyone I talk to about them says they're so common that they are annoying, so then I explain how we don't have many squirrels where I'm from and then they understand my squeals...

This first guy was jumping around outside our kitchen window when I was trying to concentrate on homework but he was just so cute that I had to watch, then his buddy came and they were hopping all over the trees together. I loved the little show they put on for me!~

This second guy I saw in the tree by our front parking lot while I was walking home from class. I whipped out my camera and started taking pictures.

I justify all the pictures I take of things because as an artist you never know when you will need a certain reference.

 SQURRIELS!!! I LOVE 'EM!!!

Shootin' in the Desert

Did you know West of Rexburg is desert? Well I'd call it more like brush, because that's all it is. Brush and volcanic rock. Well my roommate Stephenie asked if I wanted to go shooting and since my only other option was sit around at home and do homework, I was all for it. Besides, its been a long time since I shot anything and I'm pretty sure I've never shot a shotgun before.

The ride was fun (thanks Dad for making me an off-roader!~) and we found a good spot that was set in the corner of two hills so that the rounds couldn't anyone by accident. Though I know shotguns have kick, it was hard, I'll have to see if I have a bruise in the morning, but so much fun hitting what you're aiming at. With practice, I think I'd be a pretty good shot!
